The Lady Eagles basketball team at East Grand Preparatory is setting the tone for the season with a renewed focus on defense and hard work. In their first game against Pioneer Tech, the team delivered an impressive performance, applying relentless pressure on ball handlers and forcing turnovers that led to key steals.

Head coach DeAnna Griffin Howard praised the effort, noting that every player contributed something unique on the court. “All my girls were great,” Howard said. “Delilah Mireles stood out offensively, while Ma’liyah Carroll was a defensive force. Ma’liyah worked hard to pull down rebounds and push the ball out to Delilah for points.”

The Lady Eagles are emphasizing consistency this year after graduating five standout players last season. Five returning players have stepped up as leaders, helping teach new teammates the fundamentals during game play. “They are doing great,” Howard said.
While the team continues to build its offensive game, Howard believes defense will remain the cornerstone of success. “Staying strong defensively will always keep us in games,” she said. “Building positive mindsets and teaching basic basketball skills will keep us successful.”

The team’s motto for the season — “Hard Work, Positivity, and Defense” — reflects its commitment to growth and resilience. With a strong start and a clear focus, the Lady Eagles are looking forward to a competitive and rewarding season.
