Chief of Schools​

Dr. Diana Vega Nunez currently serves as Cityscape Schools’ Chief of Schools, bringing more than 25 years of experience as a teacher, campus leader, and district executive. Now in her 26th year in education, she leads with a steadfast commitment to academic excellence, equity, and access for all students.
Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Nunez has served as an elementary teacher, assistant principal, and principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, as well as an executive director. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in the belief that education and access are the great equalizers, and she is deeply committed to ensuring that all students have access to high-quality instruction and opportunities that lead to social and economic mobility.
Her track record speaks for itself. In 2022, under her leadership, 14 elementary schools achieved Texas Education Agency ratings of one “A,” nine “B’s,” and four “C’s.” She has earned the Master Principal designation four times (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2019), a recognition given to top-performing school leaders who demonstrate success in student achievement, growth, and school culture. She also led a middle school to receive the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School Award and was named a Dallas ISD Principal of the Year finalist in 2016. In 2019, she was selected as a Cahn Fellow, joining a national cohort of 50 exceptional principals committed to improving educational outcomes.
Dr. Nunez is a passionate advocate for teachers and believes they are the most powerful lever for student success. She is dedicated to building supportive systems and nurturing environments where educators and students thrive.
She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Texas, a Master’s in Bilingual Education from Southern Methodist University, a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a Superintendent Certification from the University of Texas at Arlington. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership through the highly regarded Cooperative Superintendency Program at the University of Texas at Austin.
A proud daughter of immigrants, Dr. Nunez was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and raised in Oak Cliff, where she graduated from Dallas public schools. She is the second of seven siblings, all of whom are college graduates. Her journey, beginning with completing third grade in Mexico and starting fourth grade as an emergent bilingual learner in the U.S., fuels her passion for equity and representation. She remains committed to showing students and families what’s possible when opportunity meets determination. Dr. Nunez is excited to partner with the Cityscape community to ensure every learner is seen, supported, and set up for success.
