Are You New to Special Education?

A student who qualifies as a person with a disability and demonstrates a need for specially designed instruction is eligible for support from special education. Students who receive special education services are protected under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) is a broad-based piece of federal legislation that guides the work of districts in delivering services to students with disabilities. Our Special Education Department supports campuses as they implement the major components of IDEA and works to ensure that all students have access to the general curriculum. In addition, our department provides ongoing support to campuses in meeting federal and state compliance requirements.

The referral, evaluation and admission process will be explained in greater detail in other sections of the website.
