Superintendent letter about Safety and Uvalde

May 26, 2022 As I stated yesterday, we are all deeply saddened concerning the senseless loss of life in Uvalde, Texas. Again, our collective thoughts and prayers are with our fellow Texans who experienced such a horrible tragedy.  Schools should be safe havens in our communities; a place where our students and educators collaborate, grow, and learn. And because it needs to be repeated:  keeping our students safe is our top priority.  Therefore, Cityscape Schools will have an increased security presence at both campuses for the remainder of the school year with off-duty Dallas police officers patrolling inside and outside the buildings intermittently throughout the school day.  I know our Cityscape family stands united in protecting our children as best we can from such senseless violence. May 25, 2022 As soon as I saw the heartbreaking news begin to unfold yesterday from Uvalde, Texas, my heart broke for that school district and community as the unimaginable became a sad reality. It has taken a little bit of time for me to be able to gather my thoughts and reach out to each of you to discuss this tragedy and what it means for us at Cityscape Schools. First and foremost, I want to emphasize that Cityscape joins with all school districts across our state and nation in extending sincere condolences to all those affected by these catastrophic events. Clearly, the effects of such an occurrence will be felt right here at home and many may feel a heightened concern about school safety within the Cityscape community. The school counselor and administrators stand ready to respond to the needs of students, parents and staff. If your child needs support processing what…

Congratulations to the district’s FIRST TIA designations

Cityscape Schools congratulates our first two recipients of the Teacher Incentive Allotment designations and looks forward to more teachers being recognized next year.   Ms. Kimberly Novoa – Buckner Preparatory – Exemplary designation     Ms. Gabriela Espinosa – East Grand Preparatory – Recognized designation   About the Teacher Incentive Allotment  On June 2019, the 86th Texas Legislature passed House Bill 3 (HB3), which was signed into law by Governor Abbott, establishing the optional Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) program. TIA is a Texas Education Agency program, “dedicated to recruiting, supporting, and retaining highly effective teachers in all schools, with particular emphasis on high-needs and rural schools” (Texas Education Agency, 2019).    Why TIA?  Because of its positive impact on both recruitment and retention of high-performing teachers. Two goals of the TIA are to provide incentive pay to highly effective teachers and to attract and retain effective teachers, especially in rural and high-poverty level schools.     In the fall of 2019, superintendent Leonard Brannon formed an exploratory committee to study a new program from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) titled, the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA). After the exploratory committee’s approval to proceed, Mr. Brannon invited the members of the committee to present their findings to the district’s board of directors in January 2020. The board unanimously approved the district to develop an official teacher incentive program and make an application with TEA at the appropriate time.     In the summer of 2020, the district was accepted into the TIA program (Cohort C) and began collecting data to be analyzed in the summer of 2021.  After data was analyzed (fall of 2021), the district submitted two teachers to be designated as one of the three TIA designations: …

COVID -19 Protocol Information and Update

March 4, 2022  Cityscape Schools‘ has remained consistent with a mask protocol to help protect students, staff, and families from the COVID-19 virus – and its variants. Over the last month, the numbers have been encouraging as positive cases continue to decrease in Dallas County. Effective Monday, March 7, masks will no longer be a requirement on Cityscape property; however, they are still recommended.  You may have also heard that Dallas County recently transitioned to Level Orange. This additional measure gives us greater confidence to adjust some of our protocols. School visitors and volunteers will be allowed on a limited basis, and masks are recommended while inside.  Cityscape continuously monitors data and local developments related to the health and safety of all and may consider other protocols if needed. Thank you for your compliance this year, and Cityscape looks forward to returning to some sense of normalcy.

The National Junior Honor Society chapter of East Grand Preparatory Academy is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Students are selected for membership by majority vote of a five-member principal-appointed faculty council, which bestows this honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school each year. Students in grades 6 and 7 are eligible for membership. Each spring those students who meet this criterion are invited to complete a Candidate Form that provides the faculty council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service.   The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) was established in 1929, to create an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing other essential characteristics to build productive, lifelong learners.  Membership in NJHS is both an honor and a commitment.  More than just an honor roll, NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character and Citizenship. Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the NHS and NJHS. NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
