Dear Parents and Guardians,

I appreciate your patience as Cityscape staff worked to develop a school reopening plan that prioritizes the safety of students, staff, and families. These last few weeks, our community has seen a drastic increase of new COVID-19 cases and deaths.  Based on this information, the Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) issued an order on July 16, 2020, stating that “school systems shall not open for on-campus, face-to-face instruction till after September 7, 2020.”

Based on this guidance by DCHHS, the Texas Education Agency, and other sources, Cityscape Schools will delay the opening of school until after Labor Day, Tuesday, September 8, 2020.  Postponing the school start date will provide additional time to assess the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will also allow us to continue developing our Cityscape at-home/virtual learning program as well as make critical updates to the campus reopening plan.

I have received valuable feedback from the Cityscape Reopening Task Force, employees, teachers, and parent surveys. Our team has studied the best practices of school districts across the nation and evaluated current state and county COVID-19 related guidelines.

Based on the results of this work, our team has determined there are two options for instruction during the 2020-2021 school year:

Option 1: Cityscape At-Home/Virtual Learning 2.0. This is the improved version of what your child participated in at the end of the last school year. This plan includes live interactive classes with students and teachers participating in real time. Teachers will be responsible to provide live online instruction for your child. Additionally, this plan will also include self-paced online courses with intermittent teacher instruction and pre-assigned work. This model will NOT require you to teach your child. Parents will only be asked to provide support as needed, but not be your child’s primary teacher. Please see these two valuable resources, Global Learning Community Guide and Reopening School Employee Guide, for more information regarding this model and best practices for safety and health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Option 2: Cityscape At-School (face-to-face instruction). Your child will attend face-to-face instruction five days a week. There will be strict health and safety practices in place to ensure the safety of your child and employees. The Cityscape team spent hundreds of hours developing these protocols based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and DCHHS. Please see these two valuable resources, Global Learning Community Guide and Reopening School Employee Guide, for more information regarding this model and best practices for safety and health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Option 1 is the only option that Cityscape Schools can guarantee your child will not get COVID- 19 while receiving a Cityscape education.

To be able to plan properly for the new school year, we will be sending you a link this Friday, July 24, 2020, for you to commit to one of these two instructional options. The due date for you to reply will be August 3, 2020.  Your decision can be changed as circumstances in your family or the community change. In such cases, you must notify your school before the close of each 9-week grading period.  We need your decision promptly so that Cityscape can organize, prepare, and support your child in the best possible way for the new school year.

The COVID-19 health crisis has changed the way we operate, live, and function as a community.  There are many unknowns in our future.  In times like these, we must focus on areas we can control, and make decisions based on what is best for students, staff, and families. During this uncertain time, we have all experienced many personal challenges at home, work, and in the community.  As part of the Cityscape family, we want to reassure you that we care about you and your family.

#OneCityscapeFamily will overcome and prevail!

Dear Parents, Staff, and Community Members:
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding as we have been adjusting, like you, to the drastic changes during the last few months. We are very proud of the way Cityscape students, parents, and employees handled the demands from this past spring, as we continued to educate and feed our students during the most unusual of circumstances. As you know, there continues to be concerns and questions related to how schools plan to reopen in August 2020. While we are in the business of educating students, our top priority is the safety of our students and our employees. Be assured, we have been working diligently on our reopening plans for the fall. Due to all the factors and information needed to plan as COVID 19 issues continue to unfold, our comprehensive reopening plan will be released as soon as possible, contingent upon the Texas Education Agency’s guidance.
With so many uncertainties, there are two things we know for sure:  1) school WILL start on August 17, 2020, and 2) parents will be able to choose between one of the two options listed below:
  • face-to-face learning: learning happens in a traditional classroom setting with a teacher on campus using all safety guidelines, including face masks and shields and Plexiglass (acrylic) dividers between students with daily sanitizing and disinfecting of all classrooms
  • at-home/virtual learning: learning occurs outside of a Cityscape Schools’ facility with learning plans and schedules that are created by the teacher for specific classes. At-home virtual learning will be conducted by Cityscape teachers and not parents.
As we work diligently to make our final decisions about reopening in the fall, our priority is to keep everyone safe while not making life more difficult for our parents. Each family situation is uniquely different. We fully understand concerns about health and safety, virtual learning, the importance of face-to-face instruction, parents needing to work, the economy, and all other unexpected consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic. Again, our goal is to find the best way to have our students safely in our buildings as frequently as possible to ensure the health and well-being of all.

We understand that these changes are indeed significant and that there will be many questions surrounding them. We will also continue to provide as much information as it becomes available. We sincerely thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we strive to do what is best for all students and employees during these challenging times.

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT)
Dear Cityscape School Families,
Because of school closures from COVID-19, Texas received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide more than $1 billion in pandemic food benefits to families with children that have temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals.
Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) provides eligible families with a one-time payment for each child who previously received free or reduced-price meals. P-EBT works the same way Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits do and will help families get the food they need during the current pandemic. P-EBT will be administered by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Texas Department of Agriculture and Texas Education Agency.
To learn about eligibility and how to apply, see the document below or download it here.

On Friday, April 17, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott announced the closure of all Texas schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, which ends May 27th, 2020, due to ongoing safety concerns surrounding COVID-19. In accordance with the governor’s order, all Cityscape campuses will remain closed and all school events are canceled for the remainder of the school year.

Please know that while our East Grand and Buckner Preparatory campuses are closed, school is not canceled.  We are committed to at-home learning for the remainder of the school year and attending to the health, safety, and wellness needs of our students and staff.

Since COVID-19 first impacted North Texas, our administrators, teachers, and staff have worked tirelessly to launch meaningful access to at home learning across the district each week.  Our students will always remain our number one priority. Thank you to our staff and parents for their work, support, concern, and patience during these challenging times.
